We use an open-bidded zero-sum DKP system for loot. Instances are grouped together by loot tier and a separate table is maintained for each tier.

Short Version

This section has been added for applicants so they get a quick overview of the loot policy.
  1. Applicants start with no DKP
  2. Applicants accrue DKP in the same manner as guild members
  3. Minimum bid is 5 DKP
  4. All bids are done in /raid
  5. You may bid more than once if outbid
  6. If you have less than 5 points you may bid "-5" or "5 neg" - if there are no other bids, you go negative but get the item

Full Version

Current Instance Tiers:
Tier7: Naxxramas, Malygos, Sartharion
Tier8: Ulduar
Tier9: Trial of the Crusader
Note: Loot from the Vault of Archavon bosses is free-rolled with the basic presumption that alts pass to mains.

When loot drops, the designated loot monger will determine the order items are bidded for. They will then take bids on the item and determine the winner.

Initial bids:
Bid Order: Bids are accepted in the order they appear to the loot monger in /raid.
Minimum Bid: The minimum competitive bid is 5 points, but players may elect to make a higher initial bid if they so choose. You may not make a competitive bid if you do not have 5 points (see Negative Bid below). Note that if you place a very large initial bid and nobody bids against you, you will be paying that amount, so bid carefully.
Negative Bid: If nobody with 5 or more points bids on an item, people with less than 5 points may bid 5 (and denoting that they are going negative). If multiple Negative-Bids are placed, they are resolved by die roll.

Bidding up:
Bid Order: As with initial bids, the order that bids appear in /raid to the lootmonger determines who holds the current high bid.
Bidding increments: Bids are made in whole numbers - no fractions/decimals - but may be as small as 1 or as large as the player has available.
Bid Limit: There is no rigid cap on how high you can bid. However, you may only bid competitively with points you have (you cannot go negative).
Bid to Tie: You may only bid to tie if you are going All-In (see below). This rule is relaxed in duplicate loot bidding where multiple people will win an item. If you are not going All-In you may not bid-to-tie unless this will not change the loot position of the other point leaders (e.g. your bid ties the second place bidder on three items).
All In: If you can tie a current point leader by using all of your points, you may elect to go 'all in' on the item. This will tie your bids. If the other bidder(s) can raise their bid, they are free to do so. This is the only way to tie a competitive bid on a single item.

Duplicate Loot:
In cases where duplicate identical items (usually set tokens) drop from a boss they will be bidded together. The highest bidders will each get a token/item for the amount bidded by the lowest winner.

For example:
. We get two TierX tokens from Boss Y.
. A bids 10
. B bids 11
. C bids 12
. A ups his bid to 13
. B says he is out
. The top bids are A(13) and C(12). They both get a token for 12 points.

Another example:
. We get three TierX tokens from Boss Y.
. A bids 10
. B bids 11
. C bids 20
. D bids 12
. A says he is out
. The top bids are C(20), D(12) and B(11). Each gets a token for 11 points.

Yet another example:
. We get three TierX tokens from Boss Y.
. A bids 10 . . . . . A(10)
. B bids 10 . . . . . A(10), B(10)
. C bids 20 . . . . . C(20), A(10), B(10)
. D bids 11 . . . . . C(20), D(11), A(10), B(10) <-- A and B would have to roll
. A bids 11 . . . . . C(20), D(11), A(11), B(10)
. B goes all-in with 11 . .C(20), D(11), A(11), B(11) <-- A, B and D would have to roll
. D bids 12 . . . . . C(20), D(12), A(11), B(10)
. A bids 12 . . . . . C(20), D(12), A(12), B(10) <-- A's bid is here is ignored because it doesn't change his position (D's bid knocked out B).

. The top bids are C(20), D(12) and A(11). Each gets a token for 11 points.

Going Negative:
You may only go into negative points if nobody who would not go negative bids on the item. If you are in negative points, you must mark your bids to indicate you are a negative bidder (e.g. "-5" or "5 neg").

Bid Resolution:
The high bid wins the item. In the event of a tie (see All In above), the tied players roll off on the item.
If no competitive bids were made, the anti-DE bids are resolved by die roll.

Roll Offs:
High roll wins.
In the case of ties, only those who tied roll again to break the tie.

Point Initialization:
When a guild member first raids an instance in a given tier, they are seeded with a certain number of points. Guests and applicants are not seeded with points but will accrue points and may bid per the rules outlined herein. In other words, they may place Negative-Bids on items until they have accrued enough points to make a competitive bid.

Current Seed Amounts:
Tier____Amount
Tier7 . . . 20
Tier8 . . . 20
Tier9 . . . 20

Point Cap
We have instituted a point cap of 60 per tier. This means that any points you earn in excess of a total of 60 will be discarded. When tallying points at the end of a raid, points-spent will be evaluated before points-earned.

Point Distribution:
The sum of the points spent on a given boss kill is divided evenly across the raid present for that kill. The points are not formally awarded at the end of the instance run. The points are maintained on our DKP website. If you feel an error was made in your point total, please contact an officer before the next raid. Point totals will not be adjusted during a raid but may be adjusted at other times if an error is found.

A Note on 10 - Mans:
We do not employ DKP for 10-man content. We use an adhoc system where interested parties simply roll on the item if they want it. If they have already received a loot on that raid key, then they should pass to someone who hasn't. We find that more complex loot management is simply not worth the trouble in the smaller raid environment.

Change Log

3 December 2008
Replaced Anti-DE bids with Negative-Bids. Added point cap of 60.

24 July 2008
Removed point seeding for applicants and guests. This was a remnant of when we used to bring non-applicant out-of-guild people on our runs and is no longer sensible.

25 March, 2008:
Changes driven by the potential for 3 identical loots after patch 2.4.
The key change is that the amount charged to the winning bidders is the amount they bid. - redacted
Multi-drop rules re-written to be consistent for 2 or 3 identical drops.
Added note allowing for relaxation on bid-to-tie during such events.
